Creating Products

Sometimes you’ll come across an item with no product information — a bare description straight from the POS, no photo, or a barcode that doesn’t match anything. FastQuery lets you fix that right from your phone: take a couple of photos, and the AI builds a proper product record for the item.

Creating a product with FastQuery

There are two ways into the flow:

  • A scan comes up empty. You scan a barcode and see Product Not Found. Tap Take a Photo of the product to start.
  • A product looks bare. A product that’s missing its description or photo offers the same photo flow from its product screen.

One thing to know up front: your product list comes from your POS system. FastQuery adds descriptions, photos, and barcodes to items your POS already knows about — it can’t invent an inventory record. If the item isn’t in your POS yet, add it there first; it arrives in FastQuery with the next sync.

If you started from an unknown barcode, FastQuery first asks you to identify the item: search your inventory by name or SKU and pick the one you’re holding. That tells FastQuery which inventory record the new description belongs to — and links the scanned barcode to it, so the next scan goes straight to the product.

If you started from a product screen, FastQuery already knows the item and skips this step.

Take a clear photo of the product’s front packaging. This helps FastQuery identify the item and gives you a good image for your records.

Take a photo of the product’s label or barcode area. This captures important details like the manufacturer, size, and other identifying information.

Scan the barcode on the physical product and confirm it. This ties the new description to the exact barcode you’re holding, so future scans find it.

No barcode on the item? Lumber, bulk hardware, and other commodity goods often have nothing to scan. Tap This item has no barcode and FastQuery anchors the new description to the inventory item itself.

Here’s where FastQuery saves you real time. After you complete the steps, the AI automatically:

  • Generates a professional product description based on the photos you took
  • Creates a clean product image ready for your inventory

You don’t need to type out descriptions or edit photos — FastQuery handles it for you.

Product creation happens in the background, so you can keep working while FastQuery processes the item. The product screen shows an “analyzing” spinner in the meantime, and you’ll receive a notification when the product is ready — even if you’ve closed the app.

Once processing is complete, the item shows its new description and image everywhere it appears. You can find it by scanning its barcode, browsing the inventory grid, or asking the AI about it in chat.
