Barcode Scanning

Scan barcodes to instantly look up products — no searching or typing needed. Just point your phone’s camera at a barcode and FastQuery handles the rest.

Scanning in Chat

Use the scanner to quickly pull up a product and ask the AI about it:

1. Open the Chat tab
2. Tap the barcode icon to open the scanner overlay
3. Point your camera at a product barcode
4. The scanner detects the barcode automatically — no need to tap a capture button
5. Once scanned, the product is loaded into your conversation

Now you can ask the AI anything about that product:

• “How many do we have?”
• “When did we last order this?”
• “What aisle is this in?”
• “Are there similar products in stock?”

Scanning in Counting Tasks

When you’re working through a counting task, the barcode scanner is built right into the workflow:

1. Open a counting task from the Tasks tab
2. The scanner activates automatically
3. Scan items to record your counts
4. Color overlays show your progress as you go — so you can see at a glance what’s been counted
5. Audio feedback confirms each successful scan with a beep

This makes inventory counts faster and more accurate than manual entry.

Zebra Handheld Scanners

On Zebra Android handhelds (the enterprise devices with a built-in laser scanner and physical trigger), FastQuery uses the hardware scanner directly — you don’t need to open the camera at all. The app sets up its scanner profile automatically on first use; there’s nothing to configure on the device.

Just pull the trigger and the screen you’re on handles the scan:

• Chat — the scanned product is attached to your conversation, ready to ask the AI about.
• Counting tasks — the scan records a count, with the same sounds and progress colors as camera scanning. This works on the item list and while swiping through items one at a time.
• Task product lists — the scanned product is located and scrolled into view so you can check it off.

If you scan something that isn’t on the task’s list, you’ll hear a distinct miss tone and see a “Not on the list” prompt — tap it to add the item, and the list jumps straight to it. On a count, the Add scanned items setting skips the prompt and adds the item right away; the First scan counts as setting decides what the first scan of an item records. Both live under Settings in the count list’s toolbar menu (see Scan Settings).

On task product lists there’s a Check on scan setting under Settings in the list’s toolbar menu: when it’s on, scanning a barcode automatically checks the product off after bringing it into view. It applies to both the hardware trigger and the camera scanner.

Supported Barcode Formats

FastQuery supports the most common retail barcode types:

• UPC — Standard retail product barcodes
• EAN — International product barcodes
• Code 128 — Used on shipping labels and internal tags
• Interleaved 2 of 5 — Common on warehouse and distribution labels
